For many years Volkswagen Golf has been at the top of the most sought-after second-hand vehicles in Spain. but the situation has changed, and the iconic model has had to give way to another no less unique car, such as the Toyota Land Cruiser.

According to data from January to May 2023 from AutoScout24, Within the list of ten most searched cars on the Internet, seven of them correspond to top brands such as Mercedes, Audi and BMW, which translates into a desire to boast of social status through the vehicle.

In the case of SUVs, four of the models that appear in this ranking have this body, compared to three of the saloon type and another three of the C or compact segment.

However, the reality is quite different from what the wishes of the drivers suggest. Thus, the ranking of best-selling VOs in our country is occupied by more affordable cars from general brands, where the VW Golf is the car with the most sales, followed by other common models such as the Renault Mégane, Seat Ibiza, Ford Focus and Seat León.

Searches for electrified vehicles grew by 10.6% in the last year. There are two factors behind this increase: fear of the entry into force of low emission zones in 149 Spanish municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants; and the uncertainty regarding the future of a technology, that of combustion, with an expiration date, since from 2035 the sale of vehicles with this engine will be prohibited, except those that use e-fuels or hydrogen.

But the reality of the electrified in Spain is very different, since only 1.5 million of these cars circulate daily on Spanish roads, that is, only 3.6% of the total, according to the DGT.
