Hackers have broken into the world’s most popular password manager LastPass, stealing parts of the source code and other sensitive technical information of the service, according to the company’s website.

LastPass said that suspicious activity in some parts of the service’s development environment was recorded two weeks ago. The conducted investigation revealed that the hackers gained access through one compromised developer account. Parts of the source code and some technical information of the service were stolen.

Malefactors did not get access to passwords and other confidential data of clients, emphasized in LastPass.

According to Bloomberg, the hacking of the service, whose services are used by more than 33 million people, became known last week. Allan Liska, an analyst at cybersecurity company Recorded Future, quoted by the agency, said he was impressed by the speedy completion of a preliminary investigation into a hack: it usually takes more time for specialists to fully assess the situation and report it. The expert also considered the company’s statement that the attackers did not gain access to customer data convincing.
