The largest seller of stolen credit cards on the dark web stops working

by time news

The largest marketplace for selling stolen credit cards on the dark web, UniCC, has announced it is closing, according to market research firm Elliptic. According to her, every month UniCC put up “tens of thousands” of credit cards for sale. Since 2013, $358 million worth of purchases have been made on the trading floor using cryptocurrencies.

UniCC announced the completion of its work on the darknet forums in Russian and English. “Our team is retiring. Don’t make any conspiracy theories about us leaving. This is a balanced decision, we are not young, and health does not allow us to work anymore, ”says the message, the print screen of which was published by Elliptic.

UniCC added that they will close the site in ten days. What date the message was distributed is not specified. According to Forbes, the site will stop working on January 22.

Elliptic writes that stolen credit cards “have value” because they can be used to purchase high-value items or gift cards, which can then be resold for cash. This scheme is often used by cybercriminals. This method is also used to launder and cash out cryptocurrencies, experts say.

As noted by Elliptic, illegal trading platforms have been increasingly closed on the darknet lately. In October 2021, the largest darknet market, White House Market, closed. In November, the Cannazon site announced the closure, in December – Torrez, they specialized in the sale of drugs. In addition, the Monopoly Market darknet market has been unavailable since the beginning of January.
