It is the last conversation that BILD was able to have with actress Ingrid Steeger (†76). The former “Klimbim” star died on Friday in Bad Hersfeld. The cause of death is still unknown.
BILD remembers the interview with the German TV icon. The cell phone rang five times. Ingrid’s voice sounded broken. Severe hiccups made it difficult for her to speak. It happened that morning, it was August 2nd, 2023.

But Ingrid Steeger seemed weak on the phone! She kept pausing. “Nice of you to call. I am very weak. I can’t walk but I want to entertain myself.”
The actress only weighed 35 kilos in the summer and has lost a lot of weight in the last few months. A friend said, “She has everything but cancer.”

At BILD, Ingrid Steeger tried to remember the good times when she drove German men crazy as “Gabi” on “Klimbim”. She: “I’m happy that I brought joy to so many people. But: I don’t want any more visits from strangers. Only people I want to see can see me.”

There were male and female nurses around her. “I’m glad that I’m being taken care of like this. Then comes the foot care, and for lunch we have semolina porridge with jam. Luckily I have a TV so I don’t get bored. I need a therapist because I want to learn to walk again.”
She spoke to her sister Jutta regularly on the phone: “She’s in Berlin, that’s it.”

Aside from her revealing appearances, her relationships with men have always been in the public eye. As open as she was, she also loved her guys with publicity. She often naively dreamed of true love, but she always chose the wrong people. Or?
Steeger: “I had the best time in my life with Dieter Wedel. He was always good to me. We were traveling a lot. I loved him. I had the worst time with the American, the Indian, who just wanted money, money, money.” What was meant was her marriage to Tom LeBlanc, which only lasted two years.

Steeger told BILD in the summer: “I don’t know that, nobody knows that. I’m not particularly religious. I was already clinically dead once. I didn’t see anything! Now I can’t speak anymore, we’ll hang up. Bye!”
