Nintendo Switch owners may never get to officially experience the blockbuster action-adventure games, “The Last of Us” and its sequel, due to various reasons. However, a new game called “The Last Hope – Dead Zone Survival” has arrived on the eShop, providing an alternative with striking similarities to Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic series.

Released on June 30, “The Last Hope – Dead Zone Survival” is a third-person action game centered around Brian Lee. Sent to the future as part of a government investigation into a zombie outbreak, Brian must decipher the cause while possibly trying to stop it. Suddenly, he encounters a young girl who bears a striking resemblance to Ellie from “The Last of Us.” Though visually similar and wearing the same outfit, she is portrayed as a distinct character.

Aside from the characters and zombies, the similarities between “The Last Hope” and “The Last of Us” extend to the game’s cover image. A glance at the official digital cover reveals the inspiration behind V.G. Games’ creation for the Switch title.

The publication reached out to V.G. Games for more information regarding the game’s similarities, yet to receive a response. According to the game’s eShop description, players can expect an immersive atmosphere, enhanced by detailed visuals, eerie sound design, and a gripping storyline.

Playthroughs of “The Last Hope” showcase its gameplay, emphasizing the resemblance to “The Last of Us.” However, as of July 5, the game has only launched in the UK’s Nintendo eShop, with no release confirmed for North America. Currently priced at £0.99 on sale (originally £9), players in the UK can take advantage of this bargain or consider watching the TV show adaptation.

While players may be disappointed that “The Last of Us” won’t be making its way to the Nintendo Switch, “The Last Hope – Dead Zone Survival” offers an alternative experience with similar aesthetics and gameplay elements. Only time will tell if it can capture the same level of success as its notable inspiration.
