The surgical department of the regional hospital of the Jewish Autonomous Region (JAO) was left without doctors; the last three specialists, including the head, filed applications for dismissal. The department was quarantined by the order of the chief sanitary doctor on November 4 due to the coronavirus, the admission of patients was temporarily suspended, according to the internal policy department of the regional government.
“As for the simultaneous resignation of three surgeons, it has objective reasons. For one specialist, the dismissal is associated with moving to another region, for the second – with retirement. The third doctor on the same day moved to a permanent job at the coronavirus hospital, ”the statement said.
According to the head physician Elena Storozhenko, patients who were admitted to the department earlier continue their treatment in the regional hospital. They are provided with medical assistance by doctors of the corresponding specialization from other departments, she said. However, doctors no longer accept new patients, and surgeons who need help are forced to go to the neighboring Khabarovsk Territory.
Reportedly, an agreement was reached between the government of the Jewish Autonomous Region and the Ministry of Health of the Khabarovsk Territory on the routing of patients in need of emergency surgical care. Patients will be transported by the territorial disaster medicine center and, if necessary, by medical aviation.
According to the latest data, 10,789 cases of coronavirus were detected in the Jewish Autonomous Region, of which 38 – over the past day. 351 people died.
