Late Alex Trebek’s LA Home Set to be Demolished

The Studio City mansion which served as the longtime residence of the late Jeopardy host Alex Trebek is scheduled to be demolished this week, according to TMZ. Trebek lived in the iconic home for nearly three decades, personally renovating it over the years. However, following his passing on November 8, 2020, at the age of 80 due to pancreatic cancer, his wife, Jean Trebek, decided to sell the property in January 2022 for $6.45 million.

TMZ reported that over the weekend, bulldozers and excavators arrived at the house. Former neighbors witnessed the installation of a tarp to aid in the demolition process. The crew can be seen using bulldozers and excavators to dismantle the home, as documented by TMZ.

Ironically, just one month after Jean Trebek sold the property, the new owners applied for a demolition permit. The crew has already begun taking apart the massive home, with the remainder of the demolition set to be completed this week.

According to TMZ, Alex Trebek was not only the host of Jeopardy for over 35 years but also took great pride in personally fixing and renovating everything in his home. He even purchased hardware stores to support his DIY endeavors. Furthermore, he drove a pickup truck to conveniently transport supplies for his various home renovations.

The passing of Alex Trebek in 2020 due to pancreatic cancer sent shockwaves throughout the entertainment industry and beyond. The official announcement of his death was made by Jeopardy’s Twitter account, stating, “Jeopardy is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. Thank you, Alex.”

In March 2020, just months before his passing, Trebek revealed his plan to continue fighting cancer and remain in his role as Jeopardy’s beloved host. He shared that his chemotherapy treatments had reduced the size of his tumors by 50 percent. Trebek had been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in February 2019 and announced the news to the public one month later.

Throughout his life, Trebek was married twice. His first marriage to Elaine Calleli lasted from 1974 to 1981. In 1990, he tied the knot with Jean Currivan Trebek, and they remained happily married for three decades until his passing. Together, they had two children, Matthew, 33, and Emily, 30. Additionally, Trebek adopted Nicky, now 55, Elaine’s daughter from her previous marriage, during their time together.

As the demolition of Alex Trebek’s cherished home commences this week, it serves as a bittersweet reminder of the late TV icon’s enduring legacy and the imprint he left on the world of entertainment.
