He was an expert on explosions, there was no way he could make a mistake

Prof. Dr. Petar Shishkov, who died in the explosions, was a world-renowned scientist and consultant who participated in a number of research teams in the field of explosives and technologies. He taught at the University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski”, but he was also a pioneer in light shows.

He gained professional experience as a pyrotechnician, blaster, blasting manager and blasting designer. Works on research and development of new explosives for working in limited spaces and under aggravated conditions, as well as designing special blasting works, the university specifies.

In addition, Shishkov was also a designer of fireworks shows. His last performance was in Elin Pelin. He made a musical zarya, or fireworks, set off in sync with musical accompaniment. Various performances conducted by Shishkov are also available on the “Enigma” website. Depending on the type of show, they were sold for 3,500 to 8,000 BGN.

“Of course, everything is under control,” said Shishkov on June 28 to Nova TV, before the light show in Elin Pelin. He explains that the pyromusical has been in the making for 15-20 years. New elements were added every year. With his team, they went from Mexico to Japan, in Monaco they even made a 23-minute pyromusical. They also had prizes.

After it became known that Shishkov was the deceased, many of his acquaintances wrote on social networks how they remember him. “I worked with him since he was a little boy. He was a man with huge dreams and a bold fantasy”, wrote the singer Krasimir Avramov on social networks.

“An absolute perfectionist, everything was perfect down to the last element. He slowly and carefully arranged all the necessary equipment, making sure everything was properly secured. He spoke with passion, he loved what he was doing,” added PR expert Lyubomir Alamanov.

Whatever happened there, I think human error is an unlikely cause of the explosion. There is also something else, comments Vladimira Garbeva, who worked together with the deceased Associate Professor Petar Shishkov at the University of Mining and Geology.

“He was a world-class person and his knowledge and skills could hardly be duplicated by anyone else. He was a big man, but what made him even bigger was that he treated even junior professors like me as equals, his students who adored him. Docent Shishkov had a huge smile and an even bigger heart, and his loss is huge,” she explained to Nova TV.

The associate professor knew that his work was risky. “But he believed that there were ways and means of making blasting operations as safe as possible when handled professionally and properly. The truth is that he was as well trained as possible and trained as well as possible in this direction,” she is categorical.

While people were remembering Shishkov, Moscow State University announced that they urgently needed blood donors for his daughter Christina. “Blood type doesn’t matter! The academic community of the University of Mining and Geology thanks those who responded in advance!”, the university wrote on Facebook. The girl has 85% burns and “Pirogov” defined her condition as “severe with a bad outlook”.
