The Peruvian YouTubers Eva Cavero and Andrés Izarnótegui, creators of the channel: “La blue Kombi”, dedicated to travel content and with nearly 300,000 subscribers, reported having been victims of censorship by the Cuban regime.
This occurred during their visit to the island in September 2024 and what they said in a video published on Saturday, where they specified that in Cuba they were detained, interrogated and finally deported to their country.
According to the Peruvian YouTubers’ story, on September 19 they arrived in Havana as tourists to record content for their channel.
However, two days later, they were detained at their hotel by immigration authorities.
“They took us to the immigration offices and interrogated us for 12 hours,” they explained in their video, adding that they were later deported to Peru without a clear justification.
Cavero and Izarnótegui stated that they did not make the video to denounce, but rather to warn other content creators about the risks of visiting Cuba.
They assured that the Cuban regime does not tolerate freedom of expression and that their experience was a clear example of this.
“They were hostile, and accused us of wanting to discredit the government,” they commented.
The couple explained that since their arrival in the country they faced an environment of surveillance. Upon passing through immigration, they were separated from the rest of the passengers and subjected to an initial interrogation in which the authorities questioned them about their profession.
Later, while they were recording in Old Havana, a police officer stopped them, checked their equipment and allowed them to continue, but the harassment did not end there.
The next day, immigration officers and staff at the hotel where they were staying intervened again, seizing their passports and prohibiting them from contacting the Peruvian embassy.
“They accused us of committing a mistake and subjected us to more interrogations, where they even suggested that we were financed to discredit the Cuban government,” they said.
After hours of isolation, Cavero and Izarnótegui were escorted to the airport in the early hours of the morning and deported.
“They kept us separated from other travelers and we did not get our passports back until we landed in Peru,” they said.
The Peruvian YouTubers assured that they managed to maintain the material they recorded during their stay in Cuba and that they will publish it in the coming days.
