Latvia lost to Denmark 2:3 (0:0, 1:0, 1:3) at home.
Latvian ice hockey players took the lead in the 36th minute, when Eduards Tralmaks delivered the puck to the opponent’s goal after a pass from Kristiāns Rubīns, and goalkeeper Krister Gudļevski also had an assist in the goal.
At the beginning of the final third, the Danes took the lead within 65 seconds, but in the 52nd minute, using the majority, Joachim Blichfeld made it 3:1 for Denmark.
A little more than three seconds before the end of regular time, six seconds after the end of the majority, Roberts Bukarts reduced Latvia’s deficit to one accurate shot, who received the puck in front of the goal from Rihards Bukarts and beat the opponent’s goalkeeper.
On Monday, the “Arena Riga” teams will meet again.
Five goalkeepers, 11 defenders and 18 forwards are included in the list of Latvian national team candidates for the Olympic qualification tournament. Harijs Vītoliņš will name the team for the qualification tournament after the test matches with Denmark.
In the first match against the Danes, the goal for Latvia will be guarded by Kristers Gudlevskis and Gustavs Grigals, but 23 players will be registered for the match – including eight defenders and 13 forwards.
On Sunday, goalkeepers Artūrs Shilovs and Linards Feldberg, defenders Ralfs Freibergs, Ralfs Bergmanis and Bogdans Hodas, and forwards Miks Indrašis, Raivis Ansons, Sandis Vilmanis, Įrts Silkalns and Félix Gavars will be left out of the list of candidates.
Due to personal reasons, NHL players Teodors Bļugers and Elvis Merzlikins, as well as defender Kārlis Čukste, cannot help the Latvian national team in the qualification tournament.
The Latvian national team will fight Slovenia on August 29, Ukraine a day later and France on September 1 for a ticket to the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Only the winner of the qualification will win the ticket to the 2026 Olympic Games.
