According to the document called Bases for the Reconstruction of the Argentine Economy to which Ámbito accessed, Title VII referring to mining has only two articles: article 169 that repeals Law No. 24,523, which was sanctioned in 1995 and established the National System of mining trade, and article 170, which repeals Law No. 24,695, which created in September 1996 the National Bank of Mining Information on Equipment and Human Resources, which operated under the Ministry of Mining of the Nation.

In the recitals of the DNU, it justified the repeal by maintaining that “mining is another area with great potential in the country and that is notably underdeveloped.”

The National Mining Trade System was made up of the mining trade database, information and consultation centers, information agents and users. The objective was to provide information on the internal and external supply and demand of mining products and by-products.

Meanwhile, the Mining Information Bank’s objectives were to collect and process all information on equipment and human resources in the mining sector, structure the public information network and edit the information contained in the system at least once every three years.

Sector sources summarized that these two repeals will not imply major changes for mining, since the main regulations are the Mining Code and the provisions of the General Tax Regime, with the modifications established by the Mining Investment Law No. 24,196. “These are old rules that were not in operation,” they noted.
