Born in Saltillo, Coahuila, Emilio Abugarade showed his interest in painting from a young age, beginning his training in 1958. under the guidance of the renowned teacher Carmen Harlan Laroche. Thanks to his dedication and talent, he continued his studies in Mexico City with teachers such as Luis Sahún and the watercolorist Ignacio Beteta. In 1962, he presented his first exhibition in the Mexican capital, a starting point for an uninterrupted career. and with great projection in abstract figurative art.
His passion for art took him to Europe in November 1967, where he spent 14 months exploring museums and galleries in different countries. This trip was essential in his training, as it allowed him to expand his artistic horizons and absorb various influences that he would later incorporate into his own style. During this stage, his work acquired greater depth, experimenting with abstract forms that, despite distancing themselves from reality, maintained a figurative essence.
In addition to his artistic work, Emilio Abugarade contributed to the development of new talents. For seven years, he taught artistic drawing, anatomical drawing and watercolor classes at the Rubén Herrera School of Plastic Arts at the Autonomous University of Coahuila.
