Ureta accused the municipality of Lo Barnechea and especially Mayor Lira before the cameras of CHV’s Contigo en la Mañana.

Emeterio Ureta, who calls himself the Marquis of El Arrayán, will have to face justice in a conflict with the mayor of Lo Barnechea, Cristóbal Lira, for an alleged VIP photo taken near his home.

Ureta accused the municipality of Lo Barnechea and especially Mayor Lira before the cameras of CHV’s Contigo en la Mañana, stating that he was aware of the incident and was involved in “fixing.”

“There’s a little fix here! There’s a little fix here!” “Of course the mayor has the fixes and he trims his mustache…”, Emeterio Ureta said on the morning show, claiming that one of his neighbors was appropriating public land.

In response to his comments, the municipality filed a complaint against him, stating that the neighbor’s actions were in compliance, since the land is his property. On the other hand, he pointed to Ureta for not regularizing the construction of a swimming pool and a clubhouse.

“The serious statements and accusations of crimes were made by Mr. Ureta, using a means of communication such as television, in the morning and on a morning show, whose mass appeal is evident, thereby spreading his accusations to a huge number of people,” states the complaint revealed by Radio Biobío.

Along these lines, he emphasizes that “The defendant demonstrates enormous irresponsibility and lack of control (…) without taking into account whether these statements were true or not, thereby seriously harming the plaintiffs.”

In view of this trial that will begin on August 27 in the Fourth Guarantee Court of Santiago, Emeterio Ureta faces two sentences: one for libel, which could lead to 3 years in prison and a fine of 20 UTM ($1.3 million); and another for slander, with a sentence of 540 days in prison and 10 UTM ($660 thousand).
