The Liberal Movement withdrew from the governing agreement to participate in the debate together

According to the portal, the three parties agreed on participation in the pre-election debates at the coalition council meeting in August.

As Vytautas Mitalas, a representative of the Freedom Party, told “Delfi”, the agreement was aimed at going to the debates together with the opposition Social Democrats and the Democratic Union “Vardan Lietuvos” or the Union of Lithuanian Peasants and Greens.

Nevertheless, the agreement collapsed after representatives of the Liberal Movement signed an agreement without the Freedom Party, which stipulated that the Liberals would participate in the debates with the Social Democrats, the “peasants” and the Democrats.

According to V. Mital, the ruling party had a meeting last Monday, where, according to him, it was heard that the agreement on the debate was valid, but soon the truth came out.

“But on the same day, it turned out that the Liberal Movement had already left,” he said.

V. Čmilytė-Nielsen: liberals made hysteria their distinguishing feature

At that time, reacting to the statements of the liberal, the liberal leader V. Čmilytė-Nielsen regrets that the Freedom Party has distinguished itself in the Seimas in four years with only one feature – hysteria.

“I was surprised to read Vytautas Mitala’s review of the “debate betrayal” of the Liberal Movement. It is even disappointing that the liberals, who came into politics with the promise of partnership and human rights, have made constant hysteria their distinguishing feature during these four years,” the Speaker of the Seimas wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

V. Čmilytė-Nielsen also noted that the agreement with the ruling parties on participation in the debate was terminated before the opposition parties were willing to debate together.

“After it became clear that the other opposition parties are not inclined to enter into such an agreement, I informed the colleagues of the coalition that I no longer see the point in adhering to it. It is unlikely that people would be interested in watching the leaders of the three coalition parties debating with each other,” said the liberal.

The Speaker of the Seimas indicated that currently the Liberal Party has confirmed participation in 20 debates in various formats.
