The Libyan Fatwa House determines the amount of Zakat al-Fitr

The Libyan Fatwa House announced, on Tuesday, setting the amount of Zakat al-Fitr for the year 1445 AH 2024 AD.

The house stated in a statement that the amount of Zakat al-Fitr for this year is 8 dinars for those who want to pay it in cash, and (2.25) kilograms of wheat or (2) kilograms of rice for those who want to pay it from the livelihood of the people of the country.

The statement stated that “Zakat al-Fitr is obligatory, imposed by the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, on every able Muslim, young or old, male or female, and the Muslim must pay it on his own behalf, and on behalf of everyone who is obliged to support him, and that is from the majority of the country’s food, in The month of Ramadan, as a purification for the fasting person, and a comfort for the poor, and it is given to the poor people of the country, and it is a saa, four mudds, with the mudd of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.

Dar Al-Iftaa’s statement indicated, “It is permissible to pay Zakat Al-Fitr in cash, when there is an interest for the poor, and they are among the imams of guidance who are among the nation’s notables, including Omar bin Abdul Aziz, Abu Hanifa, Al-Bukhari, and Ibn Taymiyyah, may God have mercy on them all. This is the opinion of the late Malikis.”

The statement stated that “the time to pay it is before the Eid prayer, and whoever pays it after the prayer on the Eid day, it is sufficient for him with a decrease in reward, and it is permissible to pay it two or three days before the Eid.”
