MADRID, 27 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Libyan Prime Minister, Abdulhamid Dbeibé, has suspended his own Foreign Minister, Najla Mangush, from his duties for holding a meeting in Italy with his Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen, despite the fact that relations between the two countries are non-existent because Libya does not recognize the State of Israel and is a staunch ally of the Palestinian cause.

The news of the meeting, advanced by the Israeli government, has generated a wave of criticism among the various Libyan institutions and strong protests that are approaching the capital, Tripoli.

The suspension, collects the Libyan portal Al Wasat, is accompanied by an investigation into the minister to determine the circumstances of what happened.

Just hours before, the Israeli government announced that the meeting had taken place a few days ago in Italy and that the meeting constituted a “historic step” in relations between the two countries.
The meeting was confirmed just a few minutes ago by the Libyan Foreign Ministry, which described the meeting as “informal” and in which the minister “clearly and unequivocally defended” the Palestinian cause.

Prime Minister Dbeibé expects to receive the results of the investigation within three days. The Minister for Youth, Fatalá Abdul Latif Al Zani, will hold the post of Foreign Affairs on an interim basis.
