A new respiratory virus called metapneumovirus is spreading around the world.
As Day.Az reports, a new virus identified in China has also been registered in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and India.
Infectious disease Vasif Aliyev in an interview with Xezer Xeber, he noted that, despite the fact that the virus is observed in many countries of the world, including states close to Azerbaijan, the World Health Organization (WHO) has not yet made any statements on this matter. Although detailed statistics on the disease have not yet been published, the likelihood of its spread in Azerbaijan is high.
According to him, in some cases, infection with this virus can be fatal.
The infectious disease specialist also emphasized that although some drugs are effective in treating metapneumovirus infection, there is no vaccine for this disease yet. To prevent infection, it is important to practice good hygiene, as was the case during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Ministry of Health especially recommends that people with increased susceptibility use personal respiratory protection (medical masks) at public events and in crowded places, as well as maintain hand hygiene. It is recommended to include foods rich in vitamins in your daily diet. It is advisable for persons with any respiratory symptoms to undergo symptomatic treatment at home.
