European Union (EU) Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton assessed the likelihood of the American company Apple leaving the European market. This was reported by 9to5Mac, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.
Journalists noted that some experts have suggested that Apple may leave the European market in order to avoid paying multimillion-dollar fines as a result of antitrust proceedings. According to Thierry Breton, this is impossible, since the corporation will not allow itself to lose a market with 450 million consumers.
The possibility of Apple leaving Europe was previously suggested by John Gruber in his Daring Fireball blog. According to Gruber, sales in the EU bring Tim Cook’s company about 7 percent of total revenue, and possible fines could be up to 10 percent of global revenue.
Gruber also said that the EU may require Apple to provide the ability to remove a number of built-in applications. Among them, Gruber noted the Photo application, which is closely related to the ecosystem, the removal of which, according to the expert, is technically impossible.
