Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has published the list of 49 killed leaders and activists of its organization in the movement of students against quota discrimination.

Chhatra Dal president Rakibul Islam Rakib released this list in the briefing room of BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan of the capital on Wednesday (August 21).

He said that 49 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal have accepted martyrdom in the mass uprising of the students.

Noting that more than a thousand students were martyred in the movement, he paid tribute to all the martyrs and expressed his condolences to their families.

Chhatra Dal president said that the departure of Chhatra Dal in July-August movement was unprecedented. The Chhatra Dal has given full support to the movement demanding quota reform from the beginning and under the banner of the anti-discrimination student movement, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists from all levels joined the common students and accelerated the movement. On July 16, Abu Saeed was martyred by the police in Rangpur. His death shook the whole world. On the same day Wasim Akram, a member of Chhatra Dal, the second Chittagong College branch of Chhatra Dal and the first Chhatra Dal, was martyred. Mehedi Hasan Rabbi, Senior Joint General Secretary of Magura District Chhatra Dal, was martyred.

The Chhatra Dal president said that in the continuation of the anti-dictatorship movement of the 90s and the movement of the Eleventh, the Chhatra Dal, as the vanguard of democracy against the dictator, joined with the students in the movement to overthrow Sheikh Hasina with full force, in which Sheikh Hasina fled the country after being defeated. 2100 Chhatra Dal leaders and activists were arrested in this movement, all of whom were subjected to police torture in custody.

Chhatra Dal president Rakibul Islam Rakib said that Chhatra Dal is not associated with violence and disorder. For the last 15 and a half years, the Chhatra Dal has survived hundreds of tortures and persecutions. None of our leaders are involved in any disorder, occupation. We have already issued press releases to let us know if anything like that happens anywhere.

Rakib also said that the Chhatra Dal held a mourning procession across the country including Dhaka at 3 pm in memory of the martyrs of the student movement.

At that time, Chhatra Dal general secretary Nashir Uddin Nashir said that Sheikh Hasina fled the country in the face of the popular uprising of students on August 5. For more than a century, every leader and activist of Chhatra Dal was determined to establish a democratic campus and a Bangladesh of equality and harmony. At the same time, the Chhatra Dal’s struggle for students’ rights in education is still active.

Nashir also said, we think that for a healthy politics in a campus, student politics is definitely needed to get the rights of students. It’s time to stop the politics of those students who have done terrorism, extortion, beating people to death, usurpation of power, robbery.
