The Lithuanian took the second place after the first 50 meters and was half a second behind the Chinese Bozun Yang. In the second part of the swim, ours kept a similar pace and was second in the first swim. The Lithuanian swam the 100 m breaststroke distance in 1 minute. 59.69 sec. In the general standings, E. Matakas took 4th place and reached the final of the event.
Dutch representative Rogiers Dorsman swam the fastest in the selection, who won the 100 m breaststroke in 1 minute. 10.92 sec. China’s Bozun Yang (1 min. 14.99 sec.) was second in the selection, Ukrainian Danylo Chufarov was third (1 min. 15.24 sec.). We remind you that the 8 best performing swimmers made it to the finals.
The final, to which E. Matakas made it, will take place on Thursday evening (19:01 Lithuanian time).
In addition, former Russian Dimitrijus Boroninas swam under the neutral flag with the Lithuanian in the selection. He was the last in the first swim (1 min. 23.21 sec.), and in the end it turned out that the Russian never made it to the final.
E. Matakas already swam in the Paralympics in Paris – the Lithuanian participated in the 50 m freestyle swimming, where the Kaunian reached the final and took sixth place among all swimmers.
We would like to remind you that in the identical event, the Kaunas won bronze at the last Paralympic Games in Tokyo. At that time, he covered the distance in the final swim in 26.38 seconds.
During the entire history of swimming at the independent Lithuanian Paralympic Games, only two swimmers have managed to win medals – E. Matakas and the current president of the Lithuanian Disabled Sports Federation Kęstučius Skučuis (silver, 2004 Athens Olympics).
