On January 19, the FFF Executive Committee made a request to the International Football Association Board (Ifab) to experiment with the live sound system of the referees from the start to the end of Ligue 1 matches next season. She had made the same request on April 11 regarding the Coupe de France final on Saturday between Nantes and Toulouse at the Stade de France. But each time she received a negative answer.

“The FFF has initiated all the steps at its disposal to set up the direct sound system for referees as desired by the clubs, the referees, the Professional Football League and the FFF Executive Committee. The Ifab clearly answered no. We can only take note of Ifab’s refusal concerning this advance in the timetable desired by France, ”explained to AFP the president of the Federal Commission of Arbitrators and member of the Comex of the Federation, Éric Borghini.

Deferred only

“It’s a disappointment because there is a real enthusiasm, a real demand and a consensus on the subject. We respect the decisions but we will continue to lobby for the sound system of the referees, we are not giving up, ”he added. Mr Borghini however specified that the referees will be equipped with a microphone during the final of the Coupe de France and that the FFF had received authorization to broadcast extracts of their communications on a delayed basis “for the purpose of education and of transparency”.

The Ifab also refused to allow France to experiment with explaining VAR (video assistance to arbitration) decisions to the public, a process that Fifa tried during the Club World Cup in February and will test again. during the Under-20 World Cup (May 20-June 11), Borghini said.
