The DEEP of the Dodecanese of New Democracy met on Thursday with the presence of the Dodecanese MPs, Mr. Manou Konsola, Tsambikas Iatridis, Vassilis Ypsilantis and representatives of the Deputy Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy – Dodecanese Member of Parliament, Ioannis Pappas. Also, in the meeting, the Dodecanese Statesmen with New Democracy, Antonis Giannikouris and Eleftheria Ftaklakis and members of the organizations participated.
As underlined in statements made to ‘d’ by the president of the DEEP, Mrs. Efi Charalambopoulou:
“The meeting took place in the wake of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ visit to Tilos and Rhodes. We all referred to the importance of the visit for the Dodecanese, expressing our satisfaction, for the honor we feel every time he visits us.
Afterwards, we talked about the electoral process ahead of the European elections on June 9, 2024. We are all ready to fight another electoral battle together. On June 9, we are voting for New Democracy to highlight our worthy representatives in the European Parliament. The European elections are very important for the ND. We, too, must communicate to the world the achievements and reforms that have been made during the prime ministership of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and above all, we must not stop at the loose vote. We want to send a loud message that this is NOT a casual vote! It is the opportunity to strengthen the voice of our country in Europe even more!
Our country must continue to be on the path of development since the choices are considered very important. From our side, we will try to communicate to the Dodecanese, why the citizens should choose the N.D. As the prime minister himself has repeatedly stated, the European elections are not an opportunity to express dissatisfaction. We must all think about it very carefully before going to the polls.”
On the same wavelength, Ms. Charalambopoulou spoke about the important reform of the postal vote, both for Greeks living abroad and for those living in other regions of the country:
“We choose whether we wish to vote by postal vote. The deadline is until April 29, 2024 by registering at epistoliki.ypes.gov.gr. It is a very important reform and I believe that this is a factor that will help reduce abstention – something that has concerned the parties – as a whole – in all the recent electoral processes
. The only way for someone to vote from their place of residence in the European elections on 9 June is to vote by letter. But even if someone lives in Greece, they have the option to vote by mail if they wish.
We, taking over the organizational part for this electoral contest, hold continuous teleconferences since our region includes many islands. Recently, we were informed that in the South Aegean and the Dodecanese, there will be a special committee (from the central administration) which will support the electoral campaign, so we will be in constant contact and teleconferences in view of the crucial Euro-election. This is the issue that is high on the ND agenda while, at the same time, we are ready to welcome the prospective MEPs who will want to visit us at our offices”.
He also said that visits are expected in the next period of echelons from the government and the party, either to Rhodes or to other islands.
