The Long History of Relations with the UN Calls for Caution

The UN applauds the country’s actions towards a bright future and salutes Burundi’s efforts for development. António Guterres expresses his support for the ambitious project for the emergence of Burundi in 2040.

New York (UN), September 18, 2022 – In accordance with Burundi’s foreign policy, in particular its commitment to globalization, the President of Burundi, His Excellency Ndayishimiye Evariste, Major General, along with the excellent Burundian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Shingiro Albertmet this Monday Mr António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), as part of the 78th Ordinary Session. This meeting focused on strengthening relations between Burundi and the United Nations.

Mr. António Guterres warmly congratulated His Excellency Ndayishimiye for the multiple initiatives undertaken to ensure the socio-economic development of Burundi. He also reiterated the United Nations’ support for an emerging Burundi by 2040 and a fully developed Burundi by 2060.

Traditionally named Ingoma y’Uburundi, Burundi is an ancient African state. The historical awareness of the Barundi regarding the relations between Burundi and the UN still gives rise to caution[1]. Since 2022, a unique opportunity has opened up for Burundi: the emergence of an alternative world to GUAN [2]that of BRICS+.
