Microsoft, the dispute over the White House or #MeToo: US trial attorney David Boies has written more than 40 years of legal history. Now he is planning to withdraw – and his law firm is in danger of falling apart over the question of succession.
American litigators seek publicity. It is the “litigators” who are the first to appear in front of the omnipresent TV cameras after a jury decision or a court hearing and turn many a legal defeat into a victory in the battle for the sovereignty of public opinion. Out of tens of thousands of litigators, there is a lot of hype and very few who can maintain a high standard over a long period of time – like David Boies.
The now 82-year-old lawyer from New York has been in the business since the 1960s. In the USA, his law firm Boies Schiller Flexner is one of the “fearsome foursome”, that small circle of specialized litigation law firms whose services are discreetly secured in advance by board members of large corporations, politicians and celebrities, before a crisis situation even arises.
