Warner Bros studios. Discovery and New Line Cinemas announced Thursday that they are developing new films inspired by Lord of the Ringsthe most famous work of the writer JRR Tolkien.

In the early 2000s, a trilogy of films about the books became a real hit. The phenomenon, directed by Peter Jackson, is celebrated by children, youth and adults to this day. Together, the three films grossed nearly $3 billion (over $15 billion) at the box office.

The feature films also won 17 statuettes at the Oscars, 11 of which The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), which equaled the Academy Award record set by only Titanic e Ben-How.

Some time later, the director brought up the saga when he directed O Hobbitwhich recounted the events prior to the triology.

“Despite the full extent of detail that has been lovingly presented in both trilogies, the vast, complex and breathtaking world dreamed up by JRR Tolkien remains largely unexplored in theaters,” producers Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy said in a statement. “The opportunity to invite fans to immerse themselves in the cinematic universe of Middle Earth is an honor.”

The development of the new films only happened due to an agreement between Warner Bros. and New Line with the company Embracer Group, which owns the rights to adapt Tolkien’s most famous works.

The latest release involving the work is an Amazon Prime series called The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which has no direct relation to the new films. The eight-episode production is set in the second age of middle earth, present in Tolkien’s writings.

the trilogy of Lord of the Rings is available for streaming on HBO Max. Already O Hobbit and the series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power can be seen on Prime Video.
