The Lounge: The Wolf Prize Winners’ Gala

1. On Tuesday, a gala evening was held in honor of the winners of the Wolf Prize for Science and the Arts for 2022. The festive event was hosted at their home in Savyon, by Yigal Landau, one of the controlling owners of the energy company Ratio, and his wife Dr. Tzipi Landau, a member of the Wolf Foundation.

The event took place ahead of the Wolf Prize ceremony on Thursday at the Knesset, during which President Yitzhak Herzog will present the prize to 11 winners from around the world, selected for their outstanding achievements and contribution to the advancement of science and art, and for humanity and international relations. The Wolf Prize is considered the second most important in the world after the Nobel Prize.

Among the participants in the festive evening: Former President Reuven (Ruby) Rivlin and his partner Sarit Tzemach, Prof. Dan Shechtman, Nobel Laureate and Acting Chairman of the Wolf Foundation, Bahrain Ambassador to Israel Khaled Yosef al-Jalma, Ambassador of Japan to Israel Kaoichi, Haim Katzman, the controlling owner of Gazit Globe and his wife, Reut Yinon-Berman, CEO of the Wolf Foundation, Prof. Elizabeth Diller, winner of the Wolf Prize in Architecture; Chairman of the Export Institute – Ayelet Nachmias and Rabin, Adv. Nahum Feinberg, Verny and Hila Rahav.

2. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem this week awarded honorary doctorates for 2022. The awards ceremony took place as part of the 85th Board of Trustees of the University, in the presence of the University’s President, Prof. Asher Cohen and the Rector, Prof. Barak Medina. Winner of the Oscar Quentin Tarantino, who is responsible for some of the canonical cinematic works of recent decades. The works of Andy Warhel were also honored and awarded – by Israeli artist Sigalit Landau, for her ecological and social work focused on the Dead Sea region.

3. The annual gala event of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art was held earlier this week. The following were invited to the summer opening celebration, in honor of the museum’s 90th birthday, and as a tribute to Israeli art. The event included an experiential visit to the ‘Material Imagination’ exhibition, which presents Israeli art from the museum’s collection, accompanied by dancers and artists. The fine culinary part of the evening included a dinner cocktail in collaboration with the Pastel restaurant, led by chef Gal-Ben Moshe, crowned with the prestigious Michelin star. The event was signed by Assaf Amdursky, Shlomi Shaban and Yael Kraus, in the show “Singing the High Windows”.

Hosted by the following: the museum’s female management team, headed by CEO Tanya Cohen-Uzieli, chief curator Mira Lapidot, president of the museum’s friends Irit Rapaport, Rachel Yanai – chairman of the friends, and Shira Yavetz-Appel, director of the friends club. 4. The Israeli Friends of Ariel University Association held a fundraising evening at the Whiskey Museum Bar in the Sharona complex in Tel Aviv. The guest of honor at the event was former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen, who addressed the audience on the subject of “The State of Israel, its location in the Middle East and its security struggles.”

During the evening, a new fund was announced – the “Assistance Fund for Students from Underprivileged Populations” which will provide financial assistance to students who need it in the belief that lack of financial means can not be a barrier to acquiring higher education for all who are interested and able. Present at the event: Haim Cohen, chairman of the Friends Association, Matanel Shalom, Eli Cohen, Moni Leiman and others.

5. Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who recently lifted the European Champions Cup, and his Israeli model fiancée Michel Grezig, are spending this week in Israel and celebrating their engagements in an Israeli atmosphere. The two spent two nights this week at the Stay Tel Aviv Hotel and even met with the hotel owners Rosie and Rafi Nakash.

The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Israel, Muhammad al-Hajah, visited the Israel Museum on Monday, and was warmly received and accompanied by Yitzhak Molcho, Chairman of the Board of the Museum, and Prof. Dennis Weil, Director of the Museum. The three toured together in the exhibition “Hover with Magritte: Following a Castle in the Pyrenees”, which tells the story behind the renowned work of the Belgian surrealist artist Rene Magritte.

7. Last Friday, the annual fundraising evening was held for the Michael Levin Center for Assistance to Lone Soldiers. The fundraising evening was organized by Drorit Nitzani and was held at the home of Tova and Raviv Schwartz in Ganei Yehuda. The donations collected from the attendees of the event will be transferred to the care of lone soldiers without a family background. Among the artists who took part and performed on stage: Hanan Yuval, Dafna Armoni, David Broza, Danny Bassan and Yair Nitzani, Arik Sinai, Salit and Tzlil Biran and more. Among the guests who came and donated: Danny and Doris Tokatli, Eitan and Ora Vestiva, Ron Zuckerman and Michaela Barko, Limor and Harel Wiesel who hosted a big party for the Fox group this week that included a performance by Omar Adam, and more.

8. Last Friday, in front of a sunset in a private house in the prestigious locality of Arsuf, former footballer Yahav Yolzeri, one of the founders of the Israeli fintech company ‘Pagaya’, married Noa. To the guests, including many of the next generation of the upper millennium, were served fine culinary dishes such as fresh oysters. A happy bride and groom: Ariel Pardo and Dana Frieder, who came to Israel especially from photography abroad, Chef Sharon Cohen, Guy Ackerman, Eleanor Angel, Shani Habas and more.
