The President of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, will visit Bulgaria for the first time this Friday. But the visit will not be an official state visit, but will come to Sofia to watch the performance of “Nabucco” by Giuseppe Verdi by the Macedonian Opera and Ballet.

According to unofficial information, Davkova will still meet with President Rumen Radev. The Minister of Culture Zoran Lutkov will also be in the Macedonian delegation. The arrival of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Timcho Mutsunski has not yet been confirmed, writes BGNES.

Just a day after taking office, Davkova attended the performance of “Valkyrie” by the Bulgarian Opera in Skopje. “I have never felt so much pleasure. Nietzsche was right when he said that without music the world would not be what it is,” she said at the time.

The visit of the Macedonian president comes at a time when relations between Sofia and Skopje are highly strained. Davkova’s party – VMRO-DPMNE won the parliamentary and presidential elections in North Macedonia at the top of a powerful anti-Bulgarian campaign. The formation also sabotaged the change to the constitution, with which the Bulgarians were supposed to be included. This is one of the conditions that Bulgaria set in order to lift Skopje’s veto on EU membership negotiations. Prime Minister Hristiyan Mitskoski is currently refusing to talk with Dimitar Glavchev’s government because it was official and not regularly elected.

On Tuesday, when it became known that Davkova was coming to Sofia, the new Bulgarian ambassador in Skopje, Zhelyazko Radukov, presented his credentials. In front of him, the Macedonian president herself emphasized that our state relations are not at the required level and must develop in a positive direction.

“In this sense, I, as the president of all citizens of this country, express my expectation and hope that you, dear ambassador, will work to develop cooperation in areas of mutual interest with an emphasis on the challenges of everyday life and the future,” said Davkova .
