“True, there is no fuel, fertilizers or other essential inputs. And what do we do: cross our arms? Why, if in these conditions there are those who achieve better results? There is no more magic wand to solve problems than the work of each day”.

That was the reflection of the member of the Political Bureau Gladys Martínez Verdecia, First Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, during the analysis of compliance with the commitments made to respond to the current economic, social, political and ideological situation in the Artemisa municipality.

After the visits of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, on January 12 and May 8 of this year, and the proposals made at that time, the action accordingly was now evaluated. with what was agreed.

The discussion focused on food production, as well as the confrontation with illegalities and speculative prices.

An excessive delay in the delivery of idle land motivated a large part of the debate, above all because it reflects a lack of understanding of the need to cede them to those who want to put them into production. In addition, the indication that each agency has its own self-supply area, in favor of helping its workers, is not complied with.

Next, another question resulted in the same untimely delay: and of the 638 hectares delivered, how many are planted? It cannot be that in a crop as undemanding as cassava we do not comply with what was planned, said Governor Ricardo Concepción Rodríguez.

But, with plantain and malanga, planting compliance is even lower (57% and 47%, respectively). Only the sweet potato already grows on the planned land.

Concepción Rodríguez reported that, given the lack of workforce in agriculture, the EJT comes to Artemisa to support, and from its cultivated soils they will supply a point of sale and a market… at better prices.

The Governor alluded to the approved cost sheets since, if the farmer is paid a quintal of sweet potato at 1,500 pesos, “we cannot allow a criminal to go to that farmer’s farm at night and pay him 3,000, to resell it even more expensive.

For this reason, it was resolved that only means of transportation from Güira de Melena, Alquízar, San Antonio de los Baños and Artemisa, with stickers that authorize them, can take agricultural products out of the territory. And those who are caught with that cargo without permission will have to be required to declare their origin, he said.

“If individuals bought a sack of sweet potato from the farmer at 1,500 pesos (at 15 a pound), and earned 300 each (at 18 a pound), it would be correct. That price is not unaffordable. But they sell a pound for 60; they want to earn too much, ”he reproached.

Likewise, he alluded to the essential role of inspectors and that of Collection. “If its 82 markets and points of sale had what we produce and at the approved prices, we would solve the problem.”

Those summoned to the headquarters of the Municipal Committee of the Party in Artemisa, also addressed the need to have a greater number of children’s houses, as well as to increase the local production of construction materials, the construction of houses, the planting of rice and cane and confronting crime, among other topics.
