Make known the science that stories have, but also the genesis of the stories and their literary part, where all this is focused through art. That is the meaning of the Paredes de Nava Museum of Stories and Science, with close to 10,000 visitors in just one year of life, which is a unique space of its kind, located in the church of San Martín, because there is no no similar museum in all of Europe that relates stories, science and art. A result that brings together 14 years of recovery work and creation of the works on display, plus another two years for the assembly of the entire ensemble.

The promoter and creator, Rosana Largo, assures Agencia Ical that uniting stories and science seems, at least, disparate, but many of the scientists resort to stories to name certain discoveries or issues, as is the case, for example, with exoplanets.

All of them are called goldilocks, since no planet can be too close or too far from its star to support life. “We see how the same thing happens in ‘Goldilocks’, where the soup can’t be too hot or too cold to eat it”, he clarifies. One can also talk about the Peter Pan Syndrome or the Cheshire Cat Galaxy, from ‘Alice in Wonderland’, among a multitude of similar examples.

The Museum is made up of several sections, with a first monograph on ‘The Little Prince’, as it is a key piece from the literary and scientific aspect, because it teaches values, but, from its hand, you can explain and understand the luminosity of the stars.

Secondly, there is another great monograph on Leonardo Da Vinci, which is linked to ‘Peter Pan’ and the dream of flying, because both have the same claim. In addition, the scientific section of the classic tales is contemplated, with ‘The Three Little Pigs’, ‘Gulliver’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Pinocchio’, ‘Aladdin’, ‘Snow White’, ‘The Chocolate House’ or ‘Alicina in Wonderland’.

Finally, the museum has the Dressing Room of Tales, where they talk about the clothing in them. “Nobody knows the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, but her hood does; the glass slipper from ‘Cinderella’ or the boots from ‘Puss in Boots’. All this plays a relevant role and it is counted on in the museum space”.

Progress is being made to carry out an expansion in the side nave and in the tower, some improvements that are under development and that will contain various surprises. “The interesting thing about this museum is that science is not shoehorned and no story is improvised to add scientific elements, quite the contrary, because one starts from said classic tale and science is obtained from it”.

Adapted and didactic

Largo stresses to Ical that all the stories have been adapted with a series of posters and infographics to explain the scientific aspects, with the help of astrophysicist Inés Rodríguez, director of the Valladolid Science Museum and jury of the Princess of Asturias Award. , since she is the one who contrasts the cartouches and performs advisory work for Rosana Largo.

Perhaps the figure of ‘The Little Prince’ is more distant to the little ones, but all the information is adapted and explained in a very simple way, says the promoter of it.

We talk about the powers of 10 to see the distances in the universe or how to measure the smallest thing, for example, a ladybug; or in the case of Alicia, who eats the cake and gets bigger or drinks from the bottle and reduces its size.

In the same way, there is also talk of mercurialism, that is, that mercury with which the felt hats were made in ‘The Hatter’, which is why it affected the nervous system and caused people to have hallucinations, he comments.

There is room to talk about the Theory of Relativity, photosynthesis, metamorphosis, marine aspects with ‘The Little Mermaid’ or engineering with ‘The Three Little Pigs’, among many other examples that the museum houses in the Paredeña town, which are not they will be known without visiting the space in the province of Palencia.

Rosana Largo conveys feeling grateful for the support of the municipality and the City Council, with its mayor, Luis Calderón, at the head, where Paredes de Nava is an affective place, since, since she was little, Largo used to go to this town, although the maternal part it also relates him to the Palencia town of Villaeles de Valdavia.

He tells Ical that his uncles were in Paredes and he visited the town with his grandparents, an affective bond that binds him. It is not the only thing, since the artistic field takes center stage, because at the age of seven she observed the church of Santa Eulalia and the altarpiece of King David by Pedro Berruguete, something that has marked her entire life and has served to take her to Times Square, In New York.
