Tananarivians will still have to wait before the urban train is put into service. The maiden journey of this first urban train linking Soarano station to Amaronakona (By-Pass) was announced for August 15 but ultimately did not take place.
The inaugural demonstration was subsequently scheduled for this morning of August 17, but late yesterday afternoon, it was announced that it would finally be cancelled. This is the second time it has been postponed.
The locomotives and wagons have however arrived at the port of Toamasina since the end of May, confirmed the report of the Council of Ministers of July 12. The State proceeded to the electrification of 8 stations crossed by the urban train including 4 main stations and 4 other small stations. The upgrade of the railways started in 2020 on a first section of 12 km between Soarano and Amoronankona should have been completed before the inauguration but obviously workers are still at work.
Many people who came to Soarano station on August 15 returned empty-handed and disappointed.
