INTERVIEW – The Covid crisis has accentuated the deterioration of mental health observed within the world population, notes Dr Rémi Pécault-Charby.

Head of the Medical Service Animation Mission at the National Health Insurance Fund, Dr Rémi Pécault-Charby takes stock of the causes of suffering at work, and the actions implemented.

LE FIGARO. – What are the main medical causes of work stoppage and those on the rise?

Dr Rémi PÉCAULT-CHARBY. – In 2022, the main reasons for French people to stop working are linked to mental health. If we add the most frequent reason, which is depressive syndrome, and anxiety disorders, we are around 17.5% of arrests. If for several years we have observed an increase in shutdowns linked to mental health, this has clearly increased since the Covid crisis. This development echoes the various studies which show a deterioration in the mental health of the world population and that of the French, particularly since the health crisis.
