The arrival of Javier Milei at the Casa Rosada predicts difficult times for Argentine science. The president-elect announced that he will close the ministries of Science and the Environment, in addition to reducing or privatizing – depending on the declaration made – CONICET, the country’s main research organization.
However, a review of the recent achievements of national researchers calls into question the convenience of dismantling a system that – although with flaws – seeks to respond to federal and solidarity criteria. Below, a selection of five of them, with the intervention of public universities, and state and private companies, based on a list proposed by the Scientific News Agency of the National University of Quilmes.
