Thus, more than 80,000 passengers have been recorded since the Malaga Metro extension to the center came into service, with record numbers both on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, which have risen to 40,978 and 42,302 users, respectively, figures that They are equivalent to a daily average of 41,644 passengers on both days, and an increase of almost 49 percent compared to the daily average for January and February.

It should be remembered that the Málaga Metro was inaugurated in July 2014, with a 12-kilometre route and 17 stops and stations, but partially, without reaching the center. In the new extension, 160 million euros have been invested.

Connected the three most populated districts

With the arrival of the Metro in the center, it has already been possible to connect the three most populated districts of the capital (Carretera de Cádiz, Cruz de Humilladero and the Central District), as well as the Teatinos district. Thus, only with this new section in service, it is expected to double the volume of users, which will go from seven to fourteen million per year.

Now, the next step is to complete the metro network with the extension of line 2
to the New Hospital. In this sense, on March 3, the works of the first section of said extension (Guadalmedina-Hilera) were tendered, with a budget of 56.6 million euros.
