The man suspected of the September assassination attempt on Donald Trump wrote a message a few months ago that he intended to kill the former president. With reference to the US Department of Justice, the AP reported about it on Monday.
“It was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it everything I could. Now it’s up to you to finish the job, and I’m offering $150,000 to whoever who will be able to complete it,” reads a note left by Ryan Wesley Routh at the home of an unspecified person, according to prosecutors.
After the arrest of the suspect, he called the police, who found ammunition, a metal pipe and other things in the box along with the message. The person in question also stated that he did not open the box before the assassination attempt on the 78-year-old presidential candidate.
Routh had been lying in wait for Trump on a golf course in Florida for hours, according to investigators. On September 15, the security guard, who was inspecting the holes on the course before the ex-president played on them, noticed an armed man at the edge of the area. Not long after, she arrested the 58-year-old Routh.
Investigators, who are demanding the suspect remain in custody, also said Monday that Routh’s cell phone signal near Trump’s golf course and residence in Florida was repeatedly recorded between Aug. 18 and Sept. 15, according to Reuters. They also found a handwritten note with dates and places where Trump was supposed to be.
Trump has already been the target of an assassination attempt on July 13 at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, where a 20-year-old American tried to shoot him. The ex-president escaped with an ear injury, but one of his supporters lost his life.
