“The José Martí International Institute of Journalism is essentially an institution with a soul and, in addition to a soul, it has an extraordinary collective genius with important influence in the promotion of ingenuity among the colleagues of the union,” said Ricardo Ronquillo Bello, national president of UPEC, at the event for the 40 years of the postgraduate academy of the press in Cuba.

No less than at the José Martí memorial, before directors and colleagues of the Institute, UPEC and the media, and specialists and officials from important organizations that support his courses, Ronquillo confessed that, for the organization he presides, the “José Martí” is one of his most beloved children and one of those who give him the most respect and authority.

In coherence with this consideration, the UPEC premiered there, with its Institute, the presentation of the El Maestro recognition, which from now on will be summarized in a work by Arístides Hernández (Ares), full of Marti meanings, the contribution of personalities and organizations to the cause of Cuban journalism.

Embracing them with one of the great ideals of the figure on which he is inspired, the president of the UPEC stated that educating journalists in the idea of ​​good so demanded by José Martí and raising awareness of it in the face of so many lies and hate speech is one of the special missions of the Institute, a pillar of the purposes of transforming the public press model in Cuba.

“You cannot think about any transformation of the press if you do not think about the work of the Institute,” he stated.

At the beginning of the evening, Ariel Terrero Escalante, director of the Institute, recognized the reason for being and the reason for doing represented in the attendees: journalists, managers, professors from the communication faculty of the University of Havana, researchers from research centers studies, representatives of international organizations, friends from other nations Mexico and Venezuela, leaders of the UPEC and the ideological department of the Central Committee of the Party, represented by Bolivian colleague Tamara Cruz.

Always impressive, Doctor Pedro Pablo Rodríguez, renowned scholar of the Cuban National Hero and one of the collaborators who give prestige to the academy’s faculty, stated that “something that has characterized the Institute and Cuban journalism almost always is the spirit with which José Martí did journalism.

«For Martí, journalism was a mission. There is always an ethical judgment in him: first of all the country, work for the good of man,” commented the researcher before defining the guide of Cuban independence as the best example of the total journalist.

Colleague Ana Teresa Badía, another of the institution’s most frequent collaborators, also participated in the ceremony. In his opinion, we are called to change the media discourse just when Cuba receives the influence of technological, social and educational changes that challenge us to work with quality and capacity for innovation, hence the relevance of a center that has articulated from Cuba the Latin American journalistic thought. “Our times need many geniuses,” she noted.

During the anniversary event of the José Martí International Institute of Journalism, the delivery of the “40th Anniversary Diploma” and the commemorative coin for the 60th anniversary of the UPEC to several professionals of considerable contribution to the José Martí International Institute of Journalism was completed (because others had already received it). improvement programs.
