Car giant Stellantis has confirmed to unions the suspension of production of the Maserati Levante at the Mirafiori factory in Turin. The last SUV with the trident on the grille will leave the assembly lines on March 31.

The announcement represents another cold shower for workers at the Turin plant, who for a third day staged another unorganized protest outside the factory gates against the lack of answers about their future.

“When workers strike spontaneously, it means that the situation has reached its limit. There is no more time to lose, we must act immediately,” said Eddie Lazzi of the unions.

Every day in Turin, 25 copies of the Levante crossover are produced, the prices of which start at 110,000 euros. After the discontinuation of this SUV, launched in 2016, the factory will remain Ghibli, Quattroporte, GranTurismo and GranCabrio, the production of which is up to 8 units per day. The Fiat Nuova 500 is assembled on another line at a rate of about 215 units.

“Stopping the Levante represents a delay in production and a reduction in models. This can only generate further redundancies. We need to act quickly to get a new model for the Miafiori,” the unions added.
The company based in Modena, in addition to the factory in Turin, has another one for assembling cars – in Gruliasco, located outside Turin, where the Quattroporte and Ghibli are mainly made.
