The Awards have been assigned The Masks of Italian Theatre 2024an award created in 2002 by director Luca De Fusco and journalist Maurizio Giammusso.

Liv Ferracchiati won the Best Prose Performance Award for the play How things tremble when reflected in the waterproduced by the Piccolo Teatro di Milano, which also includes the recognition for Giovanni Cannata as Best emerging actor/actress. Peter Stein receives the Best Director Award for Nervous breakdowna show produced by Tieffe Teatro Milano and Teatro Biondo Palermo.

Trio of prizes for De Gasperi: Europe is burningdirected by Carmelo Rifici and produced by the Teatro Stabile di Bolzano, which won the Best Leading Actor Award assigned to Paolo Pierobon, the Best Supporting Actor award to Giovanni Crippa and was also awarded in the Best New Italian Author category assigned to Angela Demattè.

Maria Paiato is awarded the Best Actress Award for Boston Marriagea co-production between Centro Teatrale Bresciano and Biondo di Palermo; alongside which the Best Supporting Actress Award went to Manuela Mandracchia for Agosto a Osage County directed by Filippo Dini, produced by the Teatro Stabile di Torino; while the Best Monologue Interpreter is Peppino Mazzotta for Radio Argo Suite d iTeatro Rossosimona.

We continue with the Best Set Designer categories awarded to Marco Rossi and Francesca Sgariboldi for The poor man’s hotela co-production of the Teatro di Roma and Piccolo di Milano, directed by Massimo Popolizio; Best costume designer to Marta Crisolini Malatesta for Anna Karenina directed by Luca De Fusco, co-produced by the Teatro Stabile di Catania with Biondo Palermo; furthermore, Best music to Giovanni Sollima for Ajax directed by Luca Micheletti and Best lighting by Gaetano La Mela for Exercises in style directed by Emanuela Pistone, produced by the Catania Theatre.

Among the novelties of this year’s edition is the institution of the International Special Award entitled to Maurizio Scaparror, director, theatre critic and politician, but above all an internationally recognized man of theatre, awarded by Masolino D’Amico to the Spanish Juan Mayorgaone of the most representative authors of our time. Finally, as usual, two awards were given Special Awards: to the director, set designer and costume designer Pierluigi Pizzi the Lifetime Achievement Award presented directly by the President of the Jury Gianni Letta; while at Daniela Bortignonidirector of the Silvio D’Amico Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Graziella Lonardi Buontempo Memorial Award presented to her by her niece Gabriella Lonardi and Luca De Fusco.
