New placement in police custody for the mayor of Cholet (Maine-et-Loire). Gilles Bourdouleix (DVD), was once again arrested by the police on Tuesday, we learned from a judicial source, confirming information from the regional press.
“I confirm custody,” said the prosecutor of Angers, Éric Bouillard. The magistrate refused to give further information on Tuesday evening, in particular to specify the file which motivated this police custody.
According to the regional press, police officers showed up early Tuesday morning at the home of the city councilor, mayor of Cholet since 1995, and he would be heard at the Angers police station. Ouest-France specifies that he was first received at the Cholet police premises by a dozen investigators from the territorial direction of the judicial police, before being taken to Angers in the middle of the morning, where he would still be on Tuesday night.
Already in custody a year ago

Gilles Bourdouleix, 62, had already been placed in police custody a year ago, in January 2022. Three preliminary investigations, entrusted to the judicial police of Angers, were opened in 2021 concerning the town hall of Cholet for misappropriation, illegal taking of interest, breaches of weapons regulations as well as forgery and use of forgery. The town has nearly 55,000 inhabitants. The director general of services and the deputy director general were then also placed in police custody at the same time as the mayor.
