The mayor of the Guadeloupe municipality of Gosier, Cédric Cornet, “was put on trial” pour “embezzlement of public funds, favouritism, recourse to concealed work”announced the public prosecutor of Pointe-à-Pitre in a press release.

The chosen one was “placed under judicial control” after a night spent in police custody and a referral to the investigating judge. According to local media, Mr. Cornet’s lawyer intends to challenge the bail and the indictment.

William Korutos, director general of the services of the Riviera du Levant agglomeration community chaired by Mr. Cornet, was also indicted and placed under judicial control.

In July, a first hearing of Cédric Cornet took place in the premises of the financial brigade in Pointe-à-Pitre, after a search warrant had been issued against him. The mayor of Gosier had not gone to his judicial summons, according to the prosecution who had mentioned a “displayed desire not to honor” this summons.

The person concerned had denied wanting to evade justice and denounced a “relentlessness”while he had claimed to be in ” honeymoon “. He had been arrested when he got off the plane.

This is not the first run-in with the law for Mr. Cornet, who has been listed as a sex offender since his conviction on appeal in 2019 to two years in prison suspended, five years of socio-judicial follow-up and 16,000 euros fine for sexual assault on a minor under the age of 15.

He was elected mayor of Le Gosier in 2020.
