“I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard that the National Public Health Care Laboratory brought as many as 3,200,000 COVID tests that expired last June to the Radviliškis District Public Health Office to distribute to our children. They are trying to explain to the health offices that the manufacturer of the tests from China has extended their validity from 18 months to 36 months, even though the reagent of some tests was already dry when the packages were opened,” K. Račkauskis wrote on the social network.

In the recording, the mayor also emphasized that this situation only proves that the state health system is full of chaos.

“I think this case shows the chaos our state’s health care system is in.” “Apparently, they bought a lot of unnecessary COVID tests, stored them in warehouses until they expired, and then got new prescriptions from China and are trying to push those tests on our children,” he said.

Among other things, K. Račkauskis assured that outdated tests will not be distributed to the children of the district and will be sent back to the National Public Health Care Laboratory.

The minister says that the ministry will analyze the situation

Minister of Health Aurimas Pečkauskas reacted to the sensational situation on Wednesday. According to him, the situation regarding outdated tests handed over to municipalities is unjustifiable and incomprehensible, so the ministry will seek to find out who is responsible for it.

“It is difficult to explain why the National Laboratory of Public Health came up with the idea to divide good tests and outdated tests. We’ll figure it out,” he wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

The minister noted that it is now very important to ensure that these tests do not reach either educational institutions or children.

“It is much more important now that these tests do not reach schools and students. For this purpose, an appropriate instruction has been given to collect them – to reduce the risk of illness and infection, high-quality, valid tests will be used”, said A. Pečkauskas.

ELTA reminds that a similar situation occurred in Rokiškis district municipality due to expired coronavirus tests. The tests given by the Ministry had to be distributed to children of Rokiškis district through educational institutions.
