jpnn.comSEMARANG – Semarang Mayor Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu has adopted Vita Azahra, the daughter of a blind couple who were rejected from the 2024 affirmative action SMA PPDB pathway, as her foster child.

The woman who is familiarly called Mbak Ita was welcomed by Vita’s parents, Warsito (39) and Uminiya (42) at the rented house on Jalan Gondang Raya 17, Tembalang Subdistrict, Tembalang District, Semarang City, Friday (12/7).

In the small, cramped rented house of the family, Mbak Ita ensured that Vita Azahra’s education costs were covered by the government, both the Central Java Province (Jateng) and the City of Semarang.

“I represent the Semarang City Government and personally adopted Vita as my foster child through the Gerbang Harapan program,” said Mbak Ita.

Through the program, Mbak Ita has now become a foster parent of two children. One girl from Papua who is still in elementary school, and Vita who will study at SMA Mardisiswa Semarang.

“I came to Mr. Warsito’s place, we talked about the bitterness of not being accepted in the country, but it turned out to be at Mardisiswa High School,” he said.

He explained that the Gateway of Hope or Joint Movement of Foster Parents for the Development of Future Days is a program to reduce the number of school dropouts.

The well-off people of Semarang City are invited to become foster parents for underprivileged children. In the meantime, Gerbang Harapan focuses on fulfilling school support needs such as uniforms, books, and student stationery and pocket money.

Ms. Ita became a foster parent for the daughter of a blind woman who was rejected from PPDB SMA Semarang.
