The mayor of Varna, Blagomir Kotsev, regularly inspects the state of garbage collection in the city, after many of the containers are overflowing with garbage scattered around. This also happens around empty vessels.
Kotsev threatened to personally deal with the garbage in Varna, held many meetings with the company that serves the process, responded to signals on social networks, calling on Varna citizens to report to the municipality.
During the summer season, there is often a crisis in garbage collection, now the problem is getting worse for other reasons, some of which remain unsolved.
CCTV cameras have already been installed and are giving results. On the other hand, the municipal administration imposed serious fines on the company, the last of which was for BGN 300,000.
On my usual morning walk around the city today, my focus was the Levski quarter and the Tsvetnia kvartal. I personally checked the state of cleanliness, as well as whether the waste containers were removed on time.
I found that the household waste – the gray ones – were taken out on time and empty, but in places people continued to throw their bags around them. With the colored containers for separate collection, the situation is as follows – the green ones are always half-empty, and the yellow ones are everywhere overflowing. Since today is Tuesday and the company is supposed to take them away today, I will give it a chance and check again later if this happened within the day, Kotsev wrote on social networks.
One of the main problems for the formation of micro-dumps around the containers is precisely the oversized waste and especially the cartons, which are bulky and must fit into the small opening of the yellow containers.
Kotsev assures that efforts are being made to change this and to replace them with more suitable ones.
Until then, however, we will monitor the timely removal of the yellow containers, so that they are not always overflowing. It is clear that the frequency of hauling and the control over it needs to be improved. Today I will demand a change in the company’s schedule, adds the mayor.
And he appealed – don’t throw anything around the container, but cut the large cartons into small pieces and put them only in the yellow containers. Dispose of bulky waste only according to schedule, and soon we will have a specialized site for separate garbage collection of all possible waste.
