One of New York City’s aides, Eric Adams, was robbed on Tuesday morning at gunpoint, police said. The 33-year-old assistant was walking down the street around 10:30 a.m. when two suspects approached him demanding to give his belongings, police said. When the city employee refused, he was shot down on the ground with gun threats, officials said.

The suspects stole the victim’s cell phone, owned by New York City, and a wallet with five credit cards, police said. The robbers then fled, local media reported.

The mayor’s aide, a member of the Adams media team, was uninjured and refused to receive medical treatment at the scene, officials said. No arrests were made. The mayor’s press secretary, Fabian Levy, told PIX11 News that the incident “further underscores the need to remove guns from dangerous people on the streets of New York.”

“Chris works hard for the city every day, and he deserves to be safe while he does his job, just like any other New Yorker. Public safety has been Mayor Adams’ top priority since day one, which is why New York City police work diligently every day to reduce Crime, “Levy said in a statement.

“Adams wants results as soon as possible, and although we have seen progress over the past few months, taking down more than 3,000 rifles from the streets and reducing double-digit shootings and killings, there is no way to fix overnight, we will do everything we can to keep all New Yorkers safe,” Levy said.
