“Pact of life at work”: Emmanuel Macron gives the social partners “until the end of this year” to propose ideas and negotiate
The Head of State has been receiving the three main employers’ organizations at the Elysée since 11 a.m. – the Medef, the Confederation of SMEs (CPME) and the Union of Local Businesses (U2P) – the day after his speech. The employee organizations, opposed to the promulgation of the pension reform, have refused to go to the meeting. During this meeting, the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, is present, as evidenced by the opening images of the meeting, disseminated by several media.
“The objective we must set ourselves is that the full agenda of the negotiations be defined in the coming weeks, the coming months in a solid way”, “and that we give you the time to negotiate, I would say until the end of this year to be able to build this pact”said Emmanuel Macron at the start of the meeting.
Regarding the reform of vocational high schools, launched last year, the President of the Republic declared that he wished “to be able to engage” dialogue “with all the social partners and the local authorities concerned” with a view to“accelerate and [de] finalize this consultation work so that, by the summer, we will have a bill” et “to initiate a concrete reform”.
Emmanuel Macron has, moreover, assured that he does not want “give the feeling of being rushed” the discussions, while the boss of the Medef, Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, had affirmed Monday evening, after the presidential address, that the social dialogue would take longer than the hundred days that the head of state seemed to allocate to him.
