Speaking at the opening of the Competition Council’s annual meeting with the media, Mr. Rahhou stressed the major importance of the media in promoting fair competition, market transparency and economic development, as well as their essential role in raising public awareness of competitive issues and combating anti-competitive practices.

Highlighting the importance of this “unmissable annual event aimed at bringing the journalistic body closer to the activities of the Council”, Mr. Rahhou welcomed “the exceptional quality of the national press in its understanding of the mechanisms governing the authority”. “This fruitful collaboration with the press also facilitates the effective dissemination of the Council’s decisions and recommendations”, he added.

At the same time, Mr. Rahhou provided an overview of the Council’s activities for the year 2023, in particular the amendments made to the legal framework governing competition in Morocco.

Recalling the publication by the Council of new guidelines on the control of economic concentration operations, he stressed their importance in clarifying the interpretation of laws and facilitating procedures for companies.

In this perspective, Mr. Rahhou mentioned the record number of concentration operations processed over the past year, also addressing the end of the operation to regularize undeclared operations, as well as the improvements made to the procedures for handling disputes, including the transactional non-contestation procedure.

Furthermore, Mr. Rahhou outlined the proactive approach adopted by the Council, consisting of assessing and formulating recommendations for reforms in various economic sectors of the Kingdom, with the aim of optimizing competitive conditions and ensuring consumer protection.

In this context, he emphasised the Council’s continued commitment to promoting fair competition, protecting consumers and encouraging innovation in a constantly changing economic environment.

This meeting took place in the presence of a host of Moroccan and foreign personalities from the economic and media spheres. It constitutes a unique opportunity to strengthen exchanges between the Competition Council and the media, thus promoting constructive dialogue and close collaboration.

The agenda of this annual meeting includes presentations by international experts on the relationship between competition authorities and the media. The event will culminate in a ceremony to present the “Conseil de la concurrence de la recherche” (Competition Council Research Awards).
