The Democratic Party in the United States continues to interfere in the elections in Israel and warns against political cooperation with Knesset member Itamar Ben Gabir, chairman of the Otzma Yehudit party.
Democratic congressman Brad Sherman called last night (Tuesday) to boycott “extremist elements”, citing only Ben Gabir as an example. “As Israel approaches the elections in November, I call on leaders from all corners of the political map to boycott extremists like Itamar Ben Gabir.”
According to Sherman, “his outrageous views are against the fundamental principles of Israel as a democratic and Jewish state,” he wrote on Twitter. “These extremists undermine Israeli interests and the relationship between Israel and the United States, which I and my friends worked hard to strengthen.”
Sherman’s words are surprising in light of the fact that he is Jewish and is considered a great supporter of Israel. Over the years, he has promoted initiatives to move the United States embassy to Jerusalem, to increase American aid to Israel for the development of missile defense systems, and to provide visa exemptions for Israelis to the United States.
