The memory of a prominent theater figure, director, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan, Professor Azer Pasha Nematov was honored in Baku, Day.Az reports.

On the anniversary of the death of Azer Pasha Nematov, the Deputy Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan, People’s Artist Murad Huseynov, employees of the department, the leadership of the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater, cultural and artistic figures, as well as members of the family of Azer Pasha Nematov visited the second Alley of Honorary Burial, honoring the memory of the people artist.

In his speech, Deputy Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Murad Huseynov spoke about the merits of Azer Pasha Nematov in the development of Azerbaijani theatrical art and his attention to creative youth.

Next, people’s artists – theater and film actor Haji Ismailov, rector of the Azerbaijan National Conservatory Siyavush Karimi, honored artists, professors Maryam Alizade and Ilham Rahimli shared their memories of Azer Pasha Nematov and spoke about his theatrical works.

Student Azer Pasha Nematov – director Elif Jahangirli, who is now working in Sweden, spoke about the role and influence of the Master on his work and life.

It should be noted that Azer Pasha Nematov was born on August 13, 1947 in Baku in the family of a prominent theater director, Honored Artist Zafar Nematov. Graduate of the department of theater director (course of People’s Artist of the USSR Mehdi Mamedov) of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts named after. M. Aliyev (now the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts) Azer Pasha Nematov from 1972 to 1990 carried out creative activities at the State Theater for Young Spectators.

In 1974-1976 he worked at the Theater for Young Spectators in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). Since 1990, he worked in Azdrama, where since 2015 he was the artistic director and chief director of the theater. Since 1991, he headed the Union of Theater Workers of Azerbaijan. Throughout his creative life, he successfully presented performances at festivals in Russia, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Tajikistan and other countries.

He died on April 9, 2023 at the age of 76. He was buried in the second Alley of Honor in Baku.
