The Gipuzkoa Mercantile Federation held its annual assembly this morning at the Reale Arena, which commemorated the 90th anniversary of this entity that brings together the local commerce of the territory. In his speech, its president, Julen Maiz, called for “fluid communication between institutions and merchants to row in the same direction, join forces and carry out exciting, interesting and necessary projects for trade.

As an example and together with other sectors, he recalled that the Federation obtained an extension of the mandatory period of six months for the entry into force of TicketBai (digitalization of invoices promoted by the Diputación de Gipuzkoa) and the exoneration of this system of vulnerable groups of the sector.

Maiz has pointed out that “the Strategic Plan that the Basque Government is designing until 2030 is key” and has asked that together, “institutions, associations and other economic agents, we claim budgets in accordance with the real contribution of the local commerce sector to GDP and to employment.

Maiz has claimed that «it is essential for our sector to develop an ambitious, serious work plan, with a roadmap rich in content. The president, who spoke in Basque and Spanish, thanked from Gipuzkoa Merkatariak all the Institutions present at the Anoeta stadium, such as the Basque Government, represented by the Minister of Tourism, Commerce and Consumption, Javier Hurtado, Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, city councils, and even the Royal Society for the disinterested transfer of its facilities.

The president of the Mercantile Federation has thanked the associates and has recalled that thanks to their fees, they can “self-finance”. The entity is made up of almost 1,500 companies and more than 1,700 points of sale.
