The couple Igor and Rafaela; Mario (top corner) and Marcelly (bottom corner)
The merchant Igor Peretto he would have declared his love to his wife, Raffaella Costa minutes before he was stabbed to death in his sister’s apartment in Praia Grande, on the coast of Sao Paulo. THE Public Prosecutor concluded that, in addition to the woman, also the merchant’s sister, Marcelly Peretto and his brother-in-law, Mario Vitorino he premeditated the crime. The three are arrested.
Igor Peretto’s speeches were described by witnesses on the night of the crime, heard by the Civil Police. The information is contained in an investigation by the company and in a complaint from the Public Prosecutor of São Paulo (MP-SP), obtained by g1.
“You know how much I love that woman, [o] how crazy I am about her,” Igor said, according to a witness. “You are all against me, you are all plotting against me. I was the only one who didn’t know anything.”
According to the MP-SP, the three arrested would have premeditated Igor’s death on August 31, because he was an “obstacle in the love triangle” between Rafaela, Marcelly and Mario Vitorino. According to the testimonies of the interested parties and the lawyers, the widow Rafaela had a relationship with Mario, husband of Marcelly, Igor’s sister. The sister’s lawyer also said that the client and Rafaela had a romantic relationship in the apartment before Igor and Mario arrived there.
Igor’s last words
In their testimony, two neighbors recounted the details of the discussion they heard on the day of the crime.
According to the MP-SP’s complaint, Igor entered the apartment under suspicion of treason and showed that he was disappointed in his sister and brother-in-law. “What was the point of doing it all? I try so hard, I’ve always done it for everyone, you fucking cheaters,” the victim allegedly said before being stabbed to death.
One of the neighbors reported that Igor declared his love for his wife. According to the Public Prosecutor, Rafaela had the task of “luring” the young man to the scene of the murder and then investigating “how long does it take for the body to stink?”.
Witnesses said Igor was “very emotional” and shouted the word “piranha” several times. They explained that the strength of his voice diminished “until it disappeared”. According to neighbors, Mario seemed calm, while Marcelly screamed and asked them to stop.
According to the complaint received by the Court, Igor’s death would bring an “economic advantage” to the accused. The prisoners’ lawyers denied the version presented by the MP-SP, according to which Rafaela had extramarital relations with Mário and Marcelly, establishing an intimate relationship between the three without the trader’s knowledge.
Remember the case
The crime occurred on August 31 in Marcelly’s apartment in Praia Grande. At the time of the crime, in addition to the victim, his sister, owner of the property, and Mário Vitorino were present. Rafaela arrived at the apartment with Marcelly, but left 13 seconds before her husband arrived with the murder suspect. The building’s cameras recorded arrivals and departures.
The women turned themselves in and were arrested on September 6, while Mário was arrested only on the 15th of the same month, after being found hiding in Rafaela’s uncle’s house, in Torrinha (SP).
In images from the building’s security cameras, Rafaela and Marcelly can be seen arriving in the car and taking the elevator to the victim’s sister’s apartment, around 4.30am. Rafaela left the place alone, about ten minutes later.
Shortly after the woman left, Igor and Mario were filmed arriving at the building by car, at 5.42am. The couple took the elevator about two minutes later. At the time, the trader appeared to argue with his brother-in-law before entering his sister’s property.
According to the Public Prosecutor, after the crime, Mario and Marcelly were filmed leaving the building at 6.04 am. The couple walked down the stairs, down into the basement and out on foot through the garage.
From there the two went by car to Mário’s apartment, which is located a few kilometers from the murder site. They arrived at the other building at 6:11 a.m., stayed about five minutes and left with bags and other items.
The facility administrator called the Military Police. Officers noticed traces of blood in the hallway before entering the apartment. They found Igor’s body lying in a bedroom, near the window, and a fight scene throughout the house.
Interview Between Time.news Editor and Criminology Expert
Editor: Good morning and thank you for joining us today to discuss this shocking case involving Igor Peretto’s tragic death. To start off, could you provide us with your background and expertise in criminology?
Expert: Good morning, and thank you for having me. I specialize in forensic psychology and criminal behavior analysis. I’ve spent over a decade studying the motivations behind various crimes, particularly in domestic and intimate partner violence contexts.
Editor: Given your expertise, what was your immediate reaction to the details surrounding Igor Peretto’s murder? It seems to involve a complex web of relationships.
Expert: It truly is a tragic situation. The element of betrayal—especially within close family ties—adds a disturbing layer to this case. It reflects how emotional connections can sometimes devolve into fatal conflicts. The notion that Igor perceived himself as an obstacle in a love triangle indicates intense emotional dynamics at play.
Editor: The reports suggest that Igor declared his love for his wife, Rafaela, just moments before his death. How do you interpret that final declaration amidst such chaos?
Expert: His last words appear to signal both desperation and a fundamental human instinct to plead for love and loyalty. It’s a heartbreaking snapshot of someone who felt profoundly betrayed. It reflects the psychological turmoil he was facing—his emotional state probably oscillated between love, anger, and disbelief.
Editor: Witnesses described an emotional confrontation before the stabbing, with Igor expressing feelings of being deceived by those close to him. How does this align with the psychological understanding of rage and betrayal in violent crimes?
Expert: When individuals feel betrayed—especially by loved ones—it can lead to intense emotional responses. In psychology, we term this as “emotional flooding,” where the individual is overwhelmed by feelings and may react impulsively. Igor’s emotional outburst and accusations before his death may have been a manifestation of that, signaling a cocktail of hurt, rage, and disbelief.
Editor: It’s been reported that the Public Prosecutor believes the murder was premeditated. How important is premeditation in understanding the crime’s psychological aspects?
Expert: Premeditation indicates a significant level of planning and forethought. This implies that the perpetrators likely moved past the emotional impulse stage into a calculated decision to act on their grievances. This speaks volumes about the psychological state of those involved; it suggests not just emotional motivation, but also a willingness to act on those feelings in a lethal manner.
Editor: The article also mentions that Rafaela allegedly played a role in luring Igor to the scene of the crime. Can you elaborate on what that suggests about her psychological state?
Expert: If proven true, this behavior could indicate a manipulation of emotions to achieve a desired outcome, suggesting a deeper psychological conflict. It raises questions about loyalty, desire, and perhaps a need to exert power in a relationship context. It implies that Rafaela may have felt trapped in a love triangle and chose a drastic measure to resolve it.
Editor: Given that all three accomplices are family members, how does familial loyalty play into violent crime cases like this one?
Expert: Familial loyalty can be incredibly powerful, often clouding judgment. In this case, we see how intimate relationships can spiral into violence when loyalty turns into complicity. Family dynamics can inhibit accountability, leading to justifications for extreme actions where a sense of solidarity overrides moral considerations.
Editor: Lastly, what does this case reveal about the darker side of human relationships and potential implications for prevention of similar incidents?
Expert: It highlights the importance of open communication and the need for individuals to address relationship issues before they escalate. Resources that promote healthy relationships and conflict resolution are crucial. Ultimately, it’s a sad reminder of how unresolved emotions can lead to devastating consequences, and it underscores the importance of mental health support in navigating complex emotional landscapes.
Editor: Thank you very much for your insights today. This case is deeply troubling, and it sheds light on the darker aspects of human relationships. We appreciate your expert perspective on such a sensitive topic.
Expert: Thank you for having me. It’s vital to continue discussing these issues to foster understanding and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
