High inflation is complicating and stressing collective bargaining not only in sectoral agreements but also in many companies in the territory in which the agreement has to be renewed. One of them is the Michelin factory in Lasarte-Oria, where the works council has called a four-day strike to pressure the pact negotiations.
This is how the workers’ representatives made it known this Tuesday in a press release. The committee, which is made up of LAB, CC OO, UGT, ELA and CSI, has called for a strike on June 5 and 19, as well as on July 10 and 11. Likewise, they indicate that a strike is called preventively in the shifts that can be activated in June and July.
The five centrals have presented a joint platform in which they demand the linking of all salary concepts to inflation, salary increases that cover the loss of accumulated purchasing power, modification of the entry salary in the terms included in the platform of the committee and attention to what is collected by the platform on the monthly remuneration system and especially to the minimum income wage.
In addition, the unions point to the possibility of unifying some action with the rest of the factories or the inter-centre committee. All this while the negotiations between the management of the company and the representatives of the workers continue, since the table is summoned to a new meeting tomorrow.
The unions justify the call for the four-day strike in order to “reinforce our demands at the negotiating table,” they point out.
The Michelin-Lasarte factory is one of the most emblematic in the territory and has 500 employees. In addition, this strike occurs at a time of change in management, since Vicente Rodríguez from Oviedo will take over from San Sebastian David Udakiola on July 1, who in turn will take over the management of the Michelin factory in Victory.
